Contest

Strangelet presents its first contest! It came from out of the slush!

And the winner of our first contest is…

Brendan Tynan Buck, with his dimension-bending story “A Messenger Will Soon Bring Good Tidings”!

Brendan recently earned his BA in Fiction Writing from Columbia College Chicago. The first chapter of his novel-in-progress won a 2012 John Schultz and Betty Shiflett Story Workshop® Scholarship. A native of the Chicago suburbs, he can often be found arguing about giant robots on the internet.

And we’re proud to feature him in the first pages of Strangelet.

Prize

In a contest of story, style, and content, Strangelet’s top judged entrant will win the opportunity to have either their short story or up to 50 pages of a prose fiction manuscript read by a real live literary agent at the Zachary Shuster Harmsworth literary agency.

All entrants will be automatically eligible for publication in Strangelet journal.

Rules and Requirements

  1. Submissions will be up to 10,000 words of prose. The Strangelet team is looking for short stories that fit the mission and vision of the journal: crossing the boundaries of genre science fiction and literature.
  2. All submissions must be previously unpublished in a literary journal or as a novelist with a publishing house.
  3. Entrants must be authors who have never been published in a literary journal or as a novel published through a publishing company.
  4. Entrants must have previously had their work rejected by a publishing company, journal, magazine, or other publication.
